A few of my friends shared their testimony in this video. I’m excited to see how PhoenixONE helped them get connected in the church community. One of the things I am loving that PhoenixONE is doing is promoting some of the wonderful organizations out there. I have always felt this is the generation to make a difference in the world. Christian Family Care is an organization that provides adoption/foster care/counseling to kids in crisis. It’s a wonderful organization and lately there has been a growing movement within the local churches to abolish the number of kids in the foster care system (over 12,000).

Another awesome organization that has been doing great stuff for many years is Compassion International. Robbie Seay Band led worship tonight and Robbie talked about what they are all about. Compassion provides child sponsorships to the many orphans around the world. For as little as $38 a month, you can make a difference in the life of a child by sponsoring them monthly. It provides food and clothing for the an entire month. I started sponsoring my child Ladouceur from Haiti back in 2006 when he was about five. He is close to teenage years now and I love getting letters from him. Tonight close to 40 children were sponsored by the PhoenixONE community. It’s funny that Compassion was brought up tonight because I have been praying about going to Haiti to visit my sponsored child. Tonight was also special for me as Aaron McRae from Hillside Community church was the guest speaker. He was a Pastor from my previous church and it was great catching up with him and Brian Wurzell – who is now going to be leading worship there.

Advent – Day 18

IMG_1405

I spent the day at Starbucks today reading a book and a letter that I got from my Compassion child that I sponsor. I have been supporting him since my birthday of 2006 – it was my gift to myself. As I was writing Ladouceur (who is now 11), I was trying to put myself in his shoes in the country of Haiti and what his everyday life is like. This is when I appreciate all the countries I’ve been to and how I’ve seen with my own eyes what poverty-stricken countries go through. Not too long after that, my buddy Kory Kredit posted this video of an India trip I took with him and Cornerstone two years ago. Even though I love the ministry of Harvest India, that was a one time trip for me (unless He calls me back). But it was a trip that came at the perfect time of my life. I saw the power of God and the power of prayer in a country dominated by Hinduism. I was able to share my testimony to hundreds of lepers, dedicate a water well and saw scores of people come to Christ. Harvest India has made a difference in the Kingdom because of prayer. I needed a boost to my faith during that difficult time and I can now look back at that spiritual marker as a source of hope. God has always used my life for extraordinary things and I time and time again forget His faithfulness. I needed to see this video. Later today I got an amazing out-of-the-blue email that just blew me away, but yet not surprising because it is how God works. Watch where God is working and join Him thereExperiencing God. Try not to figure what He is doing and just take a step in faith. As I join in this new partnership, I look forward to sharing this awesome God story as it unfolds. God is working and He loves us enough to ask us to join Him.

Child Sponsorship

I sponsored my first child in Haiti five years ago. What a joy it is to know that for about $30 a month you can provide for a child’s needs. I knew I wanted to sponsor a child here in India. This little girl just melted from the beginning. She sang with me, held my hand, kissed my cheek.. She reeled me in. Her name is Ratna Kumari and I was able to set up sponsorship with Suresh. What a blessing it is knowing I will be able to blessed her life with my finances.

During our ‘Lost Crusade’ series at Cornerstone today, Pastor Linn spoke about impacting the Kingdom beyond our short time here on earth. God wants us to leverage the resources that He has given to us to impact other lives. Here is a video of the different stories from those who have been impacted by your generosity:

One way you can make an impact is by sponsoring a child through one of our three focus countries. Cornerstone offers child sponsorships through Food for the Hungry (Peru), Huruma Children’s Home (Kenya) and Harvest India(India). For just over a $1 a day, you can make a difference in a child’s life, their family and the community.

Today was an amazing day as several people stopped by the child sponsorship booth to sponsor children.

We were also blessed by a visit from Mama Zipporah from Huruma Children’s Home in Kenya. Mama spoke from main stage on how the generosity of the people of Cornerstone have impacted the lives of the 140+ orphans at Huruma. She then took time to visit with those that sponsored children at the booth and the team headed to Kenya in August.

Starving Jesus

It was a rough day for me. Today was what would have been my 10th wedding anniversary. I woke up not wanting to let the day get to me. I wanted to do something productive instead of sulk on the couch. So I decided to serve.

sj

Craig Gross of the XXX church and J.R. Mahon wrote a book called Starving Jesus. The theme was that too many Christians are not doing enough to tell others about Jesus. Too many Christians are stuck in the pews. So they rented an RV and started a 40 day road trip across the U.S. to visit different cities and to challenge those within the church to put their faith in action. In addition to fasting during the 40 day journey, they also brought a pew along and chained themselves to it wherever they stopped.

sj1cryiDay 6 consisted of a stop in Chandler, AZ. They challenged us in the community to go serve at the Liberty House. Steve Lappen is the director of Crossroads Youth Intervention – an organization that takes in at-risk youths. The Liberty House is a building that the kids can hang out after school. They have tutoring and after school programs. The goal is not only to get them off the streets, but also present them the gospel. The problem is that CRYi has a small staff and Liberty House is a very old house that is in need of some work and cleaning. So a team of us when down there to work on the place. It was a hot, but very rewarding day.

That evening, Craig and J.R. spoke at Camber – Cornerstone’s college ministry. They chained themselves to a pew onstage and spoke about the passage in James that states “Faith without works is dead”. Afterwards, Compassion International had a table set up in the lobby. I had the blessing of signing up and sponsoring a child from Haiti named Ladouceur. What a blessing that was! God made an amazing day out of what could have been a rough one for me.
