Advent – Day 21

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Stories of Faith

I came across three amazing stories of faith today while doing my reading through the gospel of John. All three of them involved an encounter with Jesus. The first was the woman at the well in Samaria. After her encounter with Jesus, she ran into the town to tell others about him. Her faith and her testimony were enough for others to believe her and they invited Jesus to stay a couple more days. How amazing is it that her testimony alone was enough to be a witness to others! And this comes from a woman with a bad reputation in her own town.

The second was the royal official’s son who was dying. He asked Jesus if he could come heal his son. Jesus questioned if he believed because of his signs and miracles. But the official asked again and he believed. All Jesus responded was with “Go, and your son will live”. The official believed and left before even knowing that Jesus healed his son. When he got home, his son had indeed lived. What unbelievable faith and trust that this man had!

The last was the lame man at the pool who hadn’t walked for 38 years. Jesus asked him if he wanted to be healed. He did and Jesus said to pick up his mat and walk. He did as Jesus said. He was then questioned by the Jewish officials about carrying his mat on the Sabbath and he replied with that Jesus told him to get up and walk. He wasn’t concerned about the Sabbath rule because he met Jesus that day. Once again, the faith of this man was a testimony to others about who Jesus was and why he came.

I love reading these stories as they encourage my own faith and show me what I need to work on in my own life as I go through my walk.
