Dear friends and family,
Greetings and blessings to you. I have an amazing opportunity to travel to Guatemala and partner with an organization called Global CHE the week of May 12 – 20, 2012. I am excited to be a part of what Global CHE is doing in the world and how God is using them to change lives in these communities that they work in. God has been working a lot in me and I am blessed to be obedient in His calling to go to Guatemala to serve Him.
Community Health Evangelism (CHE) is a best practices model for integrating evangelism and discipleship with community-based development. The purpose of Community Health Evangelism is not only breaking poverty or planting churches, though both of those things are accomplished through CHE. Their main focus is the transformation of lives and communities that is as deep as the human heart, and as broad as the whole range of the human experience in the world God made. Today the work of Global CHE Enterprises includes ministry in 8 countries in Meso-America. The vision of Global CHE Enterprises is to see CHE transform the lives of all the indigenous peoples of Meso-America whether they live in rural villages or urban communities.

A little history on Guatemala: The Mayan civilization flourished in Guatemala and surrounding regions during the first millennium A.D. After almost three centuries as a Spanish colony, Guatemala won its independence in 1821. During the second half of the 20th century, it experienced a variety of military and civilian governments, as well as a 36-year guerrilla war. In 1996, the government signed a peace agreement formally ending the conflict, which had left more than 100,000 people dead and had created about 1 million refugees. Today this nation of 13 million people continues to struggle with the after effects of the civil war. More than 50% of the population lives under the official poverty line; the majority of these being indigenous people who are descendents of the Mayans. It is among these people that GCE primarily works.I will be going with a team of veterinarians to help diagnose, treat, vaccinate and improve the health and quality of the animals in the villages through nutrition and genetics. My job will primarily consist of some agricultural projects that include building drip irrigation systems in the villages to help water their crops. We will be working in 11 remote villages across the southern part of Guatemala. Our goal is to help these villages become self-sustainable and to show them the love of Christ.I’m going to ask if you will commit to praying for me and the team during the week that we are gone. Pray that we will accomplish the task that God has in store for us. Also pray for the people in Guatemala that are struggling in these poverty-stricken areas and for them to see the love and hope of Christ in us. I will be posting stories from the trip at my blog site
