We left early in the morning to head off to Guatemala. Tom and Diane from Christian Veterinary Mission were our leaders. I enjoyed chatting with Tom and getting to know him while hanging out in Sky Harbor. I sat with Julie and Karyn on the flight to Dallas. This was Karyn’s first trip and I was excited to hear her story. I’ve known Julie for about 6 years and was glad she was going. God is doing amazing stuff in her and many of the younger girls look up to her. She has been obedient to God throughout her trials and you can see that in her and in her walk. We met up with Steve, Ellie and Savannah from California in the Dallas airport – our other team members. I also had fun getting to know Jim and Lyn – our photographers of the trip. We were counting how many countries we had been to. Jim was in the forties and Lyn was in the thirties. I was impressed how much they have traveled (I think I counted twelve for myself). We arrived in Guatemala City in the evening and we could feel the humidity already. Hugo Junior (Dr. Hugo’s son) and his staff met us there and took us to the Mennonite Seminary where we were to stay for the evening. There were some other teams from other churches there too. After getting settled in, we had Pollo Campero for dinner – a popular fast food chain in other countries. The food is very similar to KFC. We also met some guys from Honduras that would be on our team – Adolfo and David. I stayed up and chatted with Steve and Tom in my room after dinner. I love soaking in knowledge from the older wiser guys.
