Cryi (Crossroads Youth Intervention) hosted a homeless outreach at the Liberty House. It was a great way to start the New Year. I think the director, Stave Lappen was a little overwhelmed as lots of people from different churches showed up to serve on a Sunday night. The plan was to target the homeless people sleeping in the parks and bring them blankets and sweatshirts. We actually received quite a bit of donations. Several of us then carpooled to downtown Phoenix to an area where some homeless people usually camp out. Flexibility ended up being the word of the night as the police showed up and asked us not to drop off the donations. I guess the homeless have a tendency to litter the area and it can be a misdemeanor to someone just leaving donations sitting in a park. We ended up dropping off the blankets and sweatshirts to a couple of homeless shelters down the street. The people there were very gracious and thankful.
