I got invited to a luncheon with some other leaders in ministry around the valley today. It was a guy’s only event. I had a good time getting to know some of them and hearing about how God has been working within their ministries. They showed an episode from the HBO series “Band of Brothers”. This show takes place during World War 2 and documents Easy company’s experiences during the war. The particular episode we watched showed paratroopers jumping out of planes into French airspace. Many of the soldiers were separated from each other’s company and ended up with other companies. This made their jobs even harder. They had to work together to accomplish the mission. This got to me thinking about spiritual warfare. I think sometimes we act like peace soldiers instead of war soldiers. Peace soldiers stay within their own ministry or churches and won’t work alongside other Christians. They bask in their own ministries and have an attitude of thinking they are better. Kind of like the divisions of the military and how some of them won’t associate with each other. This is not what Jesus wanted. He is the vine, we are the branches. We are to work together within the body of Christ. That means we support each other and do what we can to lift each other up. It means we don’t let petty things come in between us and what is the ultimate goal – winning lives for Christ. That doesn’t mean we can’t set boundaries or agree to disagree, but we are called to work together in unity. This is what war soldiers do, they get the job done no matter how crazy the situation can be. That was what was so cool about this luncheon. It wasn’t a bunch of guys bragging how great God has been in their own particular ministry. It was just some guys talking about how great God is and basically asking one another how we can support each other. This is what unity in the body of Christ is all about. Supporting each other and going to war together to win lives for Christ. And it’s all for His glory.
